Efforts to bolster defence cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia are gaining momentum, as both nations aim to enhance bilateral ties and contribute to the stability of the region. In recent discussions held in Hanoi, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Phan Văn Giang met with Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador Dato’ Tan Yang Thai. Giang commended the ambassador for his significant role in advancing cooperation between the two countries.
During their talks, Giang underscored the advancements made in defence relations, which have seen increased military exchanges, policy dialogues, and training collaborations. The nations have also been working closely at international and multilateral forums, reinforcing their commitment to regional security.
The Vietnamese defence minister stressed the importance of continuing to implement existing agreements and called for heightened engagement through high-level meetings and established defence cooperation mechanisms. He extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to take part in the forthcoming Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, scheduled to be held in Hanoi.
Expressing gratitude, Ambassador Tan Yang Thai thanked Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support throughout his tenure. He expressed optimism that the defence relationship between Malaysia and Vietnam will keep evolving, furthering peace and prosperity across the region.
