Malaysia has set its sights on achieving a total of 33 medals, comprising six gold, seven silver, and 20 bronze, at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games scheduled from September 19 to October 4. According to Mohd Sumali Reduan, Malaysia’s Chef de Mission, this ambitious target is grounded in the athletes’ recent performances, medal prospects, and the competitive landscape across the Asian continent.
A total of 13 sports have been identified as having the potential to secure medals for Malaysia. These include track cycling, badminton, archery, diving, squash, sepak takraw, hockey, athletics, sailing, karate, wushu, esports, and shooting. Malaysia’s delegation to the Games will consist of 352 athletes and 185 officials, who will compete in 30 out of the 43 sports featured, engaging in 156 of the 469 events.
Among the athletes representing Malaysia, wushu competitor Tan Cheong Min has been given the honor of being the country’s flag-bearer at the Asian Games. Adding to the team’s medal aspirations is the presence of track cycling star Azizulhasni Awang, who is expected to make a significant contribution to Malaysia’s medal tally.
In parallel with the Asian Games, Malaysia is also preparing for the Asian Para Games, which will take place from October 18 to 24. The contingent for the Para Games has set its own goals, targeting six gold, 10 silver, and 18 bronze medals, aiming to mirror the success hoped for in the main Games.
