Heavy rains overnight have caused significant flooding and landslides in Indonesia’s Cilacap District, Central Java, prompting authorities to launch emergency response operations. According to the Cilacap Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), several areas remain submerged as of Saturday morning, affecting residential zones, farmlands, and roads.

In the Maos sub-district, Mrenek Village experienced floodwaters reaching depths of 10 to 20 centimeters, while Karangreja Village saw levels rise up to 50 centimeters. Although evacuations have not yet been necessary, local authorities are preparing a public kitchen at the village hall to assist residents if conditions deteriorate.

The Kroya sub-district has also reported flooding in Mujur Lor and Sikampuh villages, with water reaching about 20 centimeters and impacting homes, shops, and a mosque. Authorities have requested heavy machinery to clear water hyacinth obstructing a tributary of the Silunjar River, which poses a risk of further flooding if not addressed.

Meanwhile, Cilibang Village in Jeruklegi has seen floodwaters covering agricultural land and spilling onto a major road, though the route remains accessible to vehicles. In a separate incident, a landslide has occurred in Mandala Village, also in Jeruklegi, leading local authorities and disaster response teams to initiate emergency operations. Efforts are underway to procure heavy equipment to clear the landslide debris.

The BPBD is continuing to monitor the affected locations and coordinate with local authorities and relevant agencies to manage the situation and mitigate further damage. Residents are being advised to stay alert and follow any guidance from local officials as emergency response efforts progress.
