Cambodia Advances Infrastructure Reforms to Boost Trade and Investment

by admin477351

Cambodia is intensifying efforts to overhaul its transport and logistics sectors in a bid to enhance trade competitiveness and secure stronger ties with regional and global supply chains. This initiative is part of a broader strategy spearheaded by the government to modernize infrastructure and reduce costs associated with transit, thereby facilitating better connectivity between domestic markets and international trade corridors.

During a recent Council of Ministers meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hun Manet, officials reviewed progress on improving supply chains, trade routes, and transportation systems. The discussions also covered plans to cut transit costs and bolster links between local and international markets. This strategic focus is guided by the Comprehensive Master Plan on the Cambodian Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023–2033, which outlines 174 projects aimed at developing roads, railways, waterways, ports, aviation, logistics, and intermodal transport.

The government aims to leverage the improved infrastructure to support sectors such as manufacturing and agro-processing, as well as to attract foreign investment. This approach is expected to elevate Cambodia’s position in regional and global trade networks, helping the country transition into higher-value industries.

As Cambodia pushes forward with these logistics reforms, the emphasis remains on creating a robust and efficient transport system that can sustain economic growth and competitiveness on a larger scale. The implementation of the master plan is seen as a pivotal step in achieving these goals, ultimately fostering a more integrated and dynamic trade environment.
